Earned Robux vs. purchased Robux

Not all Robux are equal at cash-out. Only eligible Earned Robux can go through DevEx; here's why the label matters.

Two kinds of Robux

Your balance can hold Robux from very different origins, and Roblox tracks the difference:

  • Purchased Robux: Robux bought with real money, whether by you or granted to your account. These fund spending inside Roblox.
  • Earned Robux: Robux you received through platform activity such as marketplace and experience sales, after the marketplace fee.

Why it matters for DevEx

The Developer Exchange only converts eligible Earned Robux into USD. Purchased Robux cannot be cashed out; they can only be spent. So two accounts with the same total balance can have very different DevEx potential, depending on how that balance was built.

When you use the DevEx Calculator, enter only the portion of your balance that is eligible Earned Robux. Everything else won't convert.

“Eligible” is an extra filter

Even within Earned Robux, Roblox applies eligibility rules, tied to how the Robux was earned and to account standing, before it can be exchanged. “Earned” is necessary but not always sufficient; the Robux must also be eligible. Roblox has the final say, and rules can change.

Don't confuse cash-out value with retail price

The DevEx rate (what a creator receives) is far lower per Robux than the retail price (what a buyer pays to purchase Robux). If you're comparing “Robux to USD,” be clear about which direction you mean. The DevEx Calculator is about the cash-out direction; see how DevEx works for the full picture.
